Remember, you are being watched at all times. This means even when you are not actively engaged in a conversation you need to present you best image. Below are some tricks you need to convey:

* Never seem to be in a hurry - hurrying betrays a lack of control over yourself, and over time.

* Always seem patient, as if you know that everything will come to you eventually.

* Your actions must seem natural and executed with ease - so when you act, act effortlessly, as if you could do much more. Cloak your focus on the elements (which will more than likely seem intense when you first start practicing the art) by being confident on the outside and relaxed on the inside. Never let them see you sweat.

* Practice being subtle (”subtle,” as used here, means ‘So slight as to be difficult to detect or analyze; elusive.’).

A great article to read suggested by one of our readers, Chase, is a post called “The Gunslinger Walk” This post will help you command respect while walking the halls of high school. It really is a must read in terms of creating your new image.

Once you have decided to change your image you will need a good starting point for understanding the essence of men’s style. A great post to read is 25 Ways for Men to Improve Style this post gives 25 tips that you can immediately implement. Remember, ultimately you will be modeling your style and dress after a celebrity, but this is a great introduction to what it takes to transform your image

Once you have selected the image that you are going for you have to be congruent with that image. If you have decided to go for the hip hop look then you can’t show up wearing punk clothes one day. This will ruin any credibility you have achieved as an innovator of that particular style.

Homework

  1. Read the entire lesson again from part 1 including the posts that I provided links to.
  2. Search through the internet and find several fashion and style related sites and add them to your favorites. These include any sites that will keep you up to date in fashion and music trends.
  3. Decide which celebrity (even minor celebrity like Bobby from Shot at Love) you want to mirror their style. Next go through the websites, magazines, youtube, and DVDs and collect as much info on their sense of style as possible.
  4. Get a new haircut. Haircut is key. No matter what it takes get your hair to look as close as possible to the guy your trying to emulate.
  5. Practice The Gunslinger Walk. If possible video tape your self doing it so you can view it from an objective point of view. Go through these 8 Keys to Mastering Your Look.
  6. Take care of all of inexpensive ways to make your self more attractive right away. These things include: tanning, hygiene, haircuts, throwing out outdated clothing, tweezing eyebrows, shaving off that ridiculous mustache, a new pair of trendy sneakers, taking care of an acme problem, adding cheap accessories to your wardrobe.
  7. Gradually start adding new outfits to your wardrobe. Pick these outfits based on the websites and magazines you’ve been researching. If at all possible bring a trendy female with you who can advise you on what looks good.
  8. Put into all of the ideas outlined in the lesson on confidence, how to carry yourself, how to walk, and how to talk. Also read through the articles on conversation skills and begin to put them into use.

Check back in a couple days for Lesson 3 of How to be Popular in High School.

im pretty clean shaven (not exactly by choice either ha ha).i recently decided im gonna go more for a Tom Brady sorta look. alot of my clothes come from Express, although i do have the typical High School brands of Hollister & American Eagle too.. but ive noticed that Express seems to make me look older, like a college guy, which i know is alot sexier to high school girls. but its funny because my choice of music is pretty much Rap/Hip Hop lol im a recovering “gangster”.

So many people toss image or first impressions out the door, labeling it vanity. Anyone who has made flash judgments in the past, know the power of image. Perception is reality. Great post.

I’ve sort of gone for the colin farrel look… I’m out of high school but still think its important to maintain a good image.

Bobby made a great point about thrift shops and salvations armys. I go there and buy like thirty shirts and spend like $40. I wind up not liking half of them, but I’ve got some solid stuff… even if i like 15/30 I’ve still got fifteen new shirts for $40..

If you go there with an idea or picutres of what you want.. it is easy to find good stuff.

When I was in highschool there was this kid who would pull mad girls and would wear a different basketball jersey every single day. He just seemed to never repeat them and had his style all his own. It really made him stand out.

(i wouldn’t recommend anyone else trying it, but definitely have your own image)

lol my friend is one of those kinda guys Ha$h,
except instead of basketball jerseys, he does it with different color basketball shirts, shorts, and shoes. he matches them all every single day, and everyone knows him as “the matching guy”. now if only he had game, and was more confident in himself, he might be able to pull some chicks with that kinda image.

Well in the struggles of being poupular there’s a thin line from speaking with confidence and being cocky, and the best way ” I think” to seperate the 2 is to notice the tone of your voice when speaking, remember its not really what you say but how you say it, you kind of wanna be a nicely spoking ass hole..
