Besides that, it is mostly the lighter skinned chaps that have a tricky time choosing the right colors. Darker skin tends to look attractive next to anything, but for the gentlemen on the pale end of the spectrum there are few things to consider.

A solid black shirt can look quite harsh against light skin. You can still wear it and look good as long as the grave black is not directly next to your face. Black slacks or a black jacket are good options as well as a shirt that has a mixture of color in it besides black.

You can also try, as an alternative, a shirt that is charcoal or light grey, like this short sleeve button down from Pac Sun. By wearing shades of grey, you get the dark feel of black without looking completely colorless in comparison.

Pure white can also be a problem. It looks severe next to fair skin. Instead wear whites with some warmth to it. By warmth I mean off-white or a white with a hint of yellow, orange or brown, like this T-shirt here from KarmaLoop.com.

Some other colors to avoid are pastels. That is correct, metro-sexual is dead. A man can care as much about fashion as a woman, but he need not look like one. Instead of springy colors, you will want to focus on rich, warm colors like jewel and earth tones. Emerald green, communist red, chocolate brown, terracotta, royal blue, military green and yellow are some fabulous masculine options for a fair fella, or any skin color for that matter.

Love the bump in fashion articles. I saw a really good article about colors and skin tone on kinowear. Btw, what are some good, bright colours for summer. I seem to be wearing just black, white, and blue and I wanna liven it up.

Ahhh I was wondering why I didn¡¯t like this shirt I bought, it¡¯s like the same color as my skin¡¦ The 3 shades darker/lighter is a good idea. Ill remember that when shopping now on.

Good clothes colour should draw peoples eyes to your face. Unless you are ugly. Then you should wear a balaclava :-)

But seriously - to draw people¡¯s eyes to your face then its all about hair/skin contrast. If you have dark hair (and especially if you are darker skinned, too), then you will look good in bright, contrasting colours. That¡¯s because your natural colouring is strong enough to deal with it.

If you have blond or grey hair (or are bald) and with a paler complexion then you will struggle with bright contrasting colours and are advised to stick with nore subdued, less contrasting tones in your clothing.

Have a great, GREAT book to recommend on this topic, specifically devoted to colors that wash out your skin (along with other fashion topics like body shapes). It¡¯s called Color for Men by Carole Jackson. It¡¯s currently out of print, but look at any online used bookstore like abebooks.com and you should be able to find it easy. I cannot stress enough, if you like this article you should try this book.

the theory is that ANYONE can wear pure red.

the most important thing ive noticed about choosing colors is undertones. i cannot stress this enough. everyone has SOME kind of undertone, regardless of how dark or light your skin is. some are yellow-y, some are pink-y, some are blue-ish, etc. you REALLY have to figure this out. then - DO NOT EVER wear colors that are your own undertone.

for example, i got a bit of olive-y yellow undertone. so when i wear yellow, orange, orange-y reds, or yellow-y greens - it makes me look sickly. the very best colors for me are the opposite - purples, blue-greys, darker reds, etc. i can wear them light or dark, as long as there isnt yellow in it.

you guys should be careful of this - even greys, browns, beiges, and primary colors (like red) come with some hint of another color. you may find you look great in that ashy-slightly-blue grey shirt, but look pale or dehydrated in almost the exact same color that has a little more warmth in it.
