Aside from constantly drinking water (I drink 2.5 liters a day), what you wear will play the dominant role in deciding how much you overheat. Granted, if you get a day like the past couple that have rolled over my neighborhood like a massive, hot steamroller… you’re screwed anyway.
Wear something on your legs that’s lightweight and breathable (not tights.. durrr). If you’re going to wear shorts find a pair with fabric that won’t cling to your legs - ideally made of one a sport mesh that keeps you cool and dry. This pair by Under Armor (amazon.com) is particularly comfortable - also, the brand is known for its high quality sports apparel. Despite their dark color, this pair will keep you from getting all sweaty down there (ew).
Now, wearing shorts isn’t always an option. I go out as much as the next guy and
in my experience, looking suave will get you more numbers. It’s pretty much impossible to look suave in shorts… You look too much like that freshman with a fake ID. Luckily for us, the powers that be created lightweight denim! The stuff is soft and light, yet it looks good and is surprisingly tough (I have yet to rip my pair of paper-thin jeans). Lucky Brand Jeans are some of my fave, winning for their quality yet reasonably-priced jeans. This pair (amazon.com) is in the lightweight fabric - you can’t really tell the weight of the fabric unless you feel it, so double-check when shopping online, and ask at the store if you aren’t sure.
So the moral of this story is: at risk of sounding like you care a little too much about your clothing, thinking about what fabric your clothes are before you buy them is worth it. When the next heat wave rolls around, you won’t be left with the choice of going commando versus sweat stains on your crotch…

Good Fashion points. I totally agree with the shorts idea, when you are indoors most of the time with air conditioning, shorts lose all their benefits but the negatives remain. I also wear cool slightly ripped jeans in the summer, none of that 80s acid wash stuff, but its actually pretty nice.
The main upside I see to shorts is the idea of actually getting sun on your legs, for a complete tan kind of look, but still thats nothing really important cause unless you go to the beach or the tanning booth/bed, you will be still working those awesome farm tan arms.
I def. would be rocking the boardshorts if I was going with the TSB crew to the DR, thats for sure.
Good Points A1_X.

In this situation, I am so lucky to be a girl. Do you know how breezy those skirts are? How many fashionable sandals are available?
It’s hilarious when i see girls walking around in super-tight hip hugger denim jeans (that give them the overhanging hip-pudge even if they aren’t fat) then they look at my spaghetti strap dress and tell me they “could wear what i wear because they want to be comfortable”! Seriously? Jeans are one MOST uncomfortable things to wear - that little dress I’m wearing feels like I walked outside if a towel and a bra. Even my pin-striped dress pants are softer and looser and more comfortable than jeans.
I can only imagine that jeans are just as uncomfortable for men. Look at all your options guys, even if it’s a little dressier, it might be a cooler, more comfortable option.

Also, wearing lighter colours when your in the sun will make you cooler as well, especially white.

Whoa, Athena, you makin me crazy…haha
I LOVE summer dresses on girls!
For those nine-to-fivers in an office like me…
It’s difficult to pull off cool in slacks and a long-sleeve-button-down shirt but it helps to wear thin cotton socks (polyester is no bueno), unbutton the top two or three buttons, and wear thin/light woven cotton dress shirts.
Good point with the mesh shorts. They won’t win any style points (unless you’re working out) but they are SO comfortable and do the best at keeping cool.

I live in a large city in the South and this is a serious issue. Down here no matter what, you’re gonna sweat. I bought a pair of lightweight Calvin Klein jeans at an outlet store for like $40. They feel just a little heavier than a t-shirt. Very comfortable too. If you have a CK store where you live, feel all of the jeans and you’ll notice they have some that are a lot lighter.
