The Success Principles: Take 100% Responsibility For Your Life

You Have to Give Up Complaining

In my earlier example about my college days trying to gain some sexual experience… I used to complain constantly about my lack of progress to my friends. I would complain how “all the girls at MSU suck,” or “how my schedule gives me no free time socialize,” or “the only guys who get girls are on steroids or sell drugs.”

It was easy to complain. It was a lot easier than taking the risk needed to change my situation. By blaming others and complaining about it… I was able to avoid my biggest fear: Talking to women, and facing the chance of rejection. But, as Canfield states:

If you want to get from where you are to where you want to be, of course you’re going to have to take that risk.

Through the mouth of your eye through the eye of the needle itYou are owed nothing in life. Do not expect life to hand you anything. Do not expect circumstances and events to change to suit your needs or accommodate you.

Next time you feel the urge to complain; instead make a request or take an action that will get you closer to your goal.

If you find that you’re hanging out with people who rather complain than take action; find new people to spend time with. Complainers will only bring you down to their level.

Pay Attention to the Results You are Getting

Ask yourself:

How am I creating or allowing this to happen? What am I doing that’s working that I need to be doing more of? (Should I do more practicing, meditating, delegating, trusting, listening, asking questions, keeping my eye on the ball, advertising, saying “I love you,” controlling my carbohydrate intake?)

What am I doing that’s not working? What do I need to be doing less of? (Am I talking too much, watching too much television, spending too much money, eating too much sugar, drinking too much, being late too often, gossiping, putting other people down?)

What am I not doing that I need to try on to see if it works? (Do I need to listen more, exercise, get more sleep, drink more water, ask for help, do more marketing, read, plan, communicate, delegate, follow through, hire a coach, volunteer, or be more appreciative?)

In this day and age… there is literally an abundance of information on how to achieve any goal or desire that you possess. This means that you have no excuse for not achieving your desired outcome.

In future articles in this series you gain more insights into the other principles that contribute to a successful life.

But for now, what you need to know, is that only you are responsible for your life. When the time comes, where you’re sitting in your deathbed, it is you who will have live with each and every decision that you made over the course of your life. All the blame casting and complaining won’t change the results you got in your one shot at life.
