Pickup Artist Mystery’s Openers
The second episode of The Pickup Artist has come and gone and we didn’t really get to see anything new out of the show. While I am happy to have heard a couple new openers and pickup lines thrown in there… most of them seemed to be the same old stuff.
What I thought was most interesting about this particular show was the brutal rejections that the guy’s were facing infield. Quite frankly, those were some of the worst rejections that I have ever seen caught on film.
I really think it has to do with the fact that women are getting immune to the canned opinion opener. Now this isn’t to say that opinions openers don’t work anymore… they certainty do. But I am a firm believer that opinion opener has to come from something you genuinely have an interest in knowing the answer to.
I posted an article titled the right way to use an opinion opener about nine months ago and still fully believe that if done in this manner you won’t see the poor results these guys did. But if you go out and use the five year old “Montel Williams opener,” “spells opener,” or the “who lies more opener” you run a serious risk of coming off as fraud and getting blown out.
The girls will not consciously realize that you’re using a canned opener from the show… they will just intuitively sense something is off.
As for the elimination… I’m not too sad to see Kevin go. Maybe it was all his bitching back in the Vh1.com contest days about Mike Stoute being too good to be on the show… but I was kind of happy to see him go.

not to mention kevin’s probably an actor. thats karma for ya, lol. I actually thought these guys were doing better than last years group at this time, except for the dude who got told to shut the fuck up, that was hillarious. It would be soooo funny if the nerdy 28 yr old virgin wins, that would be hillarious.

Yeah..I’ve never saw something so funny… They need to learn how to be a quick thinker and use a witty comeback. Of course, that might be for the advanced students.

Someone got told to ’shut the fuck up’? Was he at least in the set and just upset her or was this on the open? Christ…I may have to watch this episode just to see that and Kevin get the boot. Happy trails compadre. Hope the door smacks your ass on the way out.
Brutal rejections huh? Damn, now I’m interested.
Eathan, what witty comeback could save a set after you just got told to stfu…I’m curious? If it was said in a playful manner disregard this…just not getting the impression it was. All she’d get from me is asking the nearest person (male or female) to ‘tell that bitch to shut her mouth before I fuck-start her head’ or a serious neg on her clothes before I went on my merry way.

Those women were brutal. I loved it when Tara called the one a bitch. That was great! I couldn’t believe the shut the fuck up one. I can’t even imagine saying such a thing.

Man this was crazy to watch last night. I laughed my head off the entire time i was watching it. I think its cool these guys are willing to do what it takes to improve their game, but Jesus Christ Almighty it really doesn’t have to be that technical… Things are a whole lot more simple than what they make it out to be. Most aspects of the game just take time and patience to understand and become comfortable with.

One of the guys came into the set. He’s super high-energy, it has a kind of desperate vibe to it. But the guy isn’t bad looking, but that “I’m high on cocaine” vibe he puts out creeps the girls out. He approached the set, and before he could even begin his opener, a guy says, “Shut the fuck up!” and he bails the set.
About all he could do was either AMOG the guy, (not at his skill level), or if he had built up any kind of attraction with the girl, ignore the guy and keep talking to the girl. It was unclear if the guy was part of the set or if he was just standing there. But it was brutal.
Ironically, if Mike had been on the show, Kevin wouldn’t have lost. His major problem is he’s so uptight and nervous that it comes out in set. He cusses like a sailor, his body language is wrong for an indirect approach, (he stands square to the set and approaches directly), and his vibe is “I’m scared to death to talk to you.” It’s nothing a quick coaching could have cured, but his mannerisms are meant for direct game.
When you force a scripted opener on a guy who is not comfortable, they just talk fast to spit out the opener. It’s not a magic formula, a neutral opener is neutral, it doesn’t generate attraction. W/o them knowing kino, how to stack forward, or how to properly approach a set, it was just a slaughter waiting to happen.
Screw the script, if he had just told them something direct, he would have either gotten major attraction or a quick blowout, rather than the more painful method of having girls stare politely while he scares them.
The good news is that after that, Hawaii and Knack from Venusian Arts arrived. While Mystery/Matador/Tara coach during the day, Hawaii and Knack coach them at night. From what they say, the results are going to be much more impressive than last season when they reach the end point.
Todd, the guy who gets the fat chick, is really cool. I’m hoping he does well on the show.
