The Best Lacrosse Fight You’ll Ever See

By

This one’s been making its way around the sports blogs for the past few days now, and rightfully so: It’s the greatest moment of any lacrosse match you’re ever going to see.

To quickly get you up to speed: The video is from Game 1 of the Mann Cup, which is some kind of championship series for senior men’s lacrosse in Canada. This year’s event features the Brampton Excelsiors up against the New Westminster Salmonbellies. (Go ahead and take this opportunity to re-read those names one more time for comedic value.) But don’t let those names – or the fact that they’re Canadians, who are generally mild-tempered – fool you. The two teams won’t back down from a fight!

And what a fight it was! Let’s go to the video tape:

The fallout from the brouhaha as delivered by a Canadian news-source:

The brawl Friday lasted 10 minutes. Five players from both teams, including both back-up goalies, were tossed from the game. The teams combined for 173 penalty minutes by the end of the night.

Who would’ve guessed lacrosse would ever be worth watching, ever?

“Mann Cup, which is some kind of championship series for senior men’s lacrosse in Canada.”

I suggest you do a little research, The Mann Cup has been around since 1901, one of the best and most hard fought championship series in all of sport.

“Go ahead and take this opportunity to re-read those names one more time for comedic value”

Again, historical teams here, the Salmonbellies are older than most other professional sports teams in North America…over 120 years old. Yes, the name is today’s world is a little comical, but there is historical significance behind it. Check out their wikipedia entry.

“or the fact that they’re Canadians, who are generally mild-tempered – fool you.”

Uhhh, we invented this sport, and has been our National Sport (along with hockey) for decades. Mild Tempered Canadians? Hockey, Lacrosse, Rugby…yup, all mild-tempered sports. Just because we are generally nice people doesn’t mean we don’t like to get rough!

Never thought I would agree with a dirty Canadian, but Brad has several good points Rick… except that Canadians invented lacrosse. That is akin to saying Columbus discovered America or that Ben Franklin invented electricity.

Well… invented as far as an organized sport I meant… Had world championships since before the turn of last century…earlier than most other organized sports.

    Damn us dirty Canadians! LOL
