20th Century Fox Debuts New “Prometheus” Trailer, “Alien” Admirers Drool

Good news for fans of chestbursters and facehuggers. The international launch trailer for pseudo-?Alien? prequel ?Prometheus? debuted over the weekend and it looks pretty intense.

Here we go!

Scheduled for release in the United States on June 8, ?Prometheus? is a sci-fi/action film directed by none other than Ridley Scott, best-known for work on films like ?Alien,? ?Blade Runner? and one of my personal favs, ?Matchstick Men.? ?Prometheus,? which was originally conceived as a prequel to ?Alien,? takes places in the same universe as the sci-fi classic, but deals with an entirely different set of ideas. The film, originally planned as the fifth installment in the ?Alien? series, has been in discussion since the early 2000s. Principal photography finally began, however, in March 2011.

According to Michael Fassbender, who plays the advanced android David, ?Prometheus is absolutely connected to Alien… There’s a definite connecting vein.? He?s not lying. Uber-geeks will recognize the remains of a skeletal figure from ?Alien? in the film, known to fans as ?Space Jockey.?

If you?re a fan of ?Alien,? this trailer should satiate your needs. No matter how much Scott says ?Prometheus? is its own film, this trailer makes it look like a straight up prequel.? The film was shot in 3D, so it should be pretty thrilling to see on the big screen. For those of us who weren?t even a twinkle in our father?s eye when ?Alien? came out ? that?s 1979 ? ?Prometheus? just might provide our generation?s own classic chestbursting moment.
