We use our memory each and every day, and perhaps at every moment within it. It’s an essential part of the human condition, and we happen to have a very powerful capacity for it.?Despite its ubiquitous nature, we still often lack a great awareness of how it works. Some of us still think we work like a recording device, unconsciously lapping up everything we ever experience. This isn’t quite correct,?we don’t remember everything, we only take in the important details, which is why we have scattered recollections of our past.

We’ve all had the uncomfortable experience of a word at the end of our tongue, but we just can’t quite pull the memory up. Or we study hard for a test or interview, only to forget half of it once we arrive.
