And that’s not necessarily because we are lazy — although, to be fair, we are — and it’s not necessarily because we’re cheap — although, again, we certainly are. But instead it’s because working out inside of a dank, sweaty room with a bunch of other people just doesn’t sound like a fun time to us. Instead, we like going for jogs around the lake or doing whatever kinds of activities we need to outside in the backyard. Because, frankly, gyms are gross. grossgym1

So today we’re heading over to AskMen.com where they have a listing of the grossest spots that are found in your local gym. Their number ten ranking is probably enough to keep us from gyms for good:

No.10 Spinning Bikes
Although most people wipe down their cardio equipment after they sweat all over it, there’s something extra on spinning bikes that you need to careful of. The handlebars and seats are usually made from a soft foamy material that can contain a slew of germs ranging from staph to E. coli. One study found staph, fungi and yeast on spinning bike seats, giving us one more reason not to work out in a thong. Make sure to thoroughly wipe down the seat and handlebars before and after use. When we say “thoroughly,” we mean, take a tissue, pour on some alcohol gel and apply it liberally to the seat and handlebars. Let the alcohol air dry for a few minutes since germs are destroyed when alcohol dries and evaporates. Use this time to wipe down the other parts of the machine you usually touch, as well as your hands.

So, you know, click on the link and then add those to your mental checklist of pros and cons when thinking about renewing your latest gym membership.

Must-Read: Ballpark Delicacies http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/05/10/must-read-ballpark-delicacies/ http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/05/10/must-read-ballpark-delicacies/#comments Fri, 10 May 2013 12:30:50 +0000 RickP http://www.tsbmag.com/?p=38948 food1Baseball is great. We love baseball. There is no better sport, I don’t care your various arguments. Hell, even now during the NBA playoffs, which are admittedly amazing, we still follow baseball games on a nightly basis WHILE the NBA and NHL playoffs are going on. Because, like we said, baseball is awesome. But also awesome, is baseball FOOD. Going to a game is an excuse to spend about $50 on about two beers, and then get yourself the biggest and silliest piece of food in the stadium. But the trick is knowing what’s out there before heading to the ballpark to know just how long you should go without eating before the first pitch.

So today, just for the hell of it, we’re heading to Bleacher Report in order to take a look at their list of the weirdest ballpark foods in America. Among the craziest of the crazy that they highlight are these pieces of work:

“Gilroy Garlic Fries”: AT&T Park (San Francisco Giants)

Price: $7

No joke, while sitting at a coffee shop typing this article up, a guy next to us realized the topic we were doing, turned to us and said, “I’m from San Francisco. If you don’t put the Giants’ garlic fries on there, your list won’t be complete.”

This led us to two conclusions.

1) We need to do a better job disguising our computer screen.

2) These things must be pretty damn good.

Hearing that they’re covered in garlic and herbs makes my mouth water—and mind loathe about what my breath might smell like afterward.

We can certainly attest to the glory of these fries. So head on over and get yourself some next time you’re checking out a game in San Francisco. But also, head on over to the link above and check out the rest of the crazy ballpark food in your area.

Must-Read: Turn Her On http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/05/08/must-read-turn-her-on/ http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/05/08/must-read-turn-her-on/#comments Wed, 08 May 2013 12:30:27 +0000 RickP http://www.tsbmag.com/?p=38944 sextime1Every person is different. Every person has their own thing going on in their heads, and has whatever weird hangup from their previous relationship, and has some weird mommy and/or daddy issues, and just have certain fetishes that they enjoy. We’re all strange folks. So, whenever there is a list out there of ways to “turn her on” or “get her in the mood,” obviously there’s a certain disclaimer that comes with that — these may fail depending on the person. BUT, that said, there are certain things that MOST people enjoy. And so whenever these things come out, we’re all playing an odds game. Most girls will enjoy certain “turning her on” moves, but to find out you have to try them first.

So today we’re heading to Men’s Health where they have a list of 33 different ways to get her in the mood. Among their choice selections that must be heeded if you want to turn her on:

2. Embrace Her Until She Ends It
Good kissing tops most women’s lists of turn-ons, but don’t underestimate the heating power of a great hug, especially when she initiates it. “Let her know how much you savor it,” says Lou Paget, author of 365 Days of Sensational Sex. Make it clear you don’t want the hug to end.

3. Wear Her Name
Women love to hear men use their names. The more unexpected the place—like in the middle of a sentence—the better. Better still, write her name on your shoulder, your hand, or anyplace she’ll have a chance of spotting it. It’s a tattoo without pain—one that gives only pleasure. “It will make her laugh and think you’re so adorable,” says Davidson. “It says, ‘You matter.’ “

Head on over to the link to check out the other 31 ways, and then give them a little try tonight with the lady of your choice.

Must-Read: To Shave or Not To Shave http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/05/06/must-read-to-shave-or-not-to-shave/ http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/05/06/must-read-to-shave-or-not-to-shave/#comments Mon, 06 May 2013 12:30:27 +0000 RickP http://www.tsbmag.com/?p=38871 It’s an age old question for nearly every male who has a little more than just peach fuzz on their face: Do I grow a beard?

beard1There are many reasons not to. It itches. It takes time and learning in order to understand how to shape it correctly. It needs some washing. Maybe you have a few spots that don’t quite fill in the way you want them. Maybe you don’t want to look like a homeless person. But all of those considerations fly right out the window as soon as you wonder about the biggest question of all: Will girls like it? If they do, well, then it’s less a matter of ‘if’ and more of a question of ‘how long will it take to come in already?’ Luckily for us, AskMen.com has a recent story that seeks to answer that question once and for all. What they say regarding whether or not girls think beards are sexy:

A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of New South Wales and published in Evolution and Human Behavior found that women found men with beards — specifically 10-day-old beards — more attractive. Not just that but guys with full-beards were perceived as better and more protective fathers.

Both men and women had to rate the faces with varying levels of facial hair growth (clean-shaven, five-day stubble, 10-day stubble and full beards). While guys thought clean shaven looked better than a short, five-day beard, women actually rated smooth faces as the least attractive.

So throw your razors away, gentlemen! (Or, actually, don’t throw them away, as you still need to do some shaping and what-not so you don’t look homeless.) But start growing that beard of yours today!

While being a kid is full of thinking like you know everything and that everyone older doesn’t know anything and they’re all just trying to ruin your fun time, actually respecting them and listening to them is one of the most important things you will ever learn. These are people that actually have experience, and that experience is something you cannot learn anywhere. So in order to learn how to live your life now, you have to be able to be humble and ask advice of those who have already been through it all.

So today we’re going to link you to this amazing piece over at GQ, where basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabaar goes through 20 things he wish that he knew when he was 30 years old as a way to offer some advice to you kids out there. For instance, among the great pieces of advice he has:

17. When breaking up with a woman, you can’t always remain friends. I have managed to stay friends with many of the women I have dated because I truly liked and respected them. But sometimes emotions run too deep and efforts to remain friends, while that might help you feel better, actually might make the other person feel worse. Take the hit and let it go.

And this sucker:

12. When choosing someone to date, compassion is better than passion. I’m not saying she shouldn’t be passionate. That’s a given. But look for signs that she shows genuine compassion toward others. That will keep you interested in her a lot longer.

So, go and read the brilliant K-A-J and get your life lessons from him.

Must-Read: Boosting Her Sex Drive http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/05/01/must-read-boosting-her-sex-drive/ http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/05/01/must-read-boosting-her-sex-drive/#comments Wed, 01 May 2013 12:30:47 +0000 RickP http://www.tsbmag.com/?p=38762 sexy1This is what happens: You want to have sex with your girl. You’re all ready and planned for it. You spaced out a part of your day, held off from looking at Internet porn, and have everything set. And then, something happens. She isn’t “in the mood” anymore. And that’s it. The night’s over. She has decided that that is that, and you’re left on your own, which we all know is a terrible way to end the night. Fortunately, there are ways that you might be able to get her sex drive boosted back up.

So today we’re heading to Men’s Health where they have a listing of ways to get your girl’s sex drive boosted to outrageous levels. Among the possible methods that might help include:

TOUCH

Touch is a woman’s primary trigger for desire, according to a study in the Journal of Sex Research. “With the other senses, you’re not necessarily engaged while your partner experiences it,” says Sitron. “But touch is reciprocal: You can feel me touching you while I experience touching you.”

Take advantage with a sex therapy technique called “sensate focus.” Have your partner lie flat on her back with her eyes closed, and slowly caress her head and face—hair, nose, ears, lips; cover it all. “Pretend this is your last chance to savor her body,” says Sitron. Move to her torso and legs and feet, then flip her over and repeat.

The point is to chart new erotic territory. “The genitals, breasts, and inner thighs have the most nerve receptors, so they’re most sensitive,” says social psychologist Justin Lehmiller, Ph.D. “But almost any body part can become erotic if you learn to associate it with sexual pleasure.”

So head on over to the link in order to check out how to boost her sex drive and

Your body will certainly affect what kinds of dates you go on. And no doubt your income levels play a role in what kinds of ladies are interested in you. But above all of that, the thing that makes the most importance when it comes to everything from jobs, to friendships, to types of girls that you can date, to anything is just what kind of face you have.

Now, that’s not to say you’re stuck with what you’re born with. And no, we’re not talking about harming your face with plastic surgery of any kind. All we’re saying is that there are certain ways to take advantage of what kind of face you are given with to make sure that you’re doing yourself the most favors you can possible do. So today we’re heading over to AskMen.com where they have a primer on how to make your face better. Among their proven pieces of advice:

No.10 Minimize Large Ears With A Hairstyle That Grazes Over Them

When your ears are large relative to the size of your face and head, a hairstyle that’s close to your head, such as a buzz cut, will mean that your ears will stick out. Thus, a haircut that leaves the tops of your ears covered will render them less noticeable. If you have very short hair, grow it out for a few weeks and then ask your barber to leave a few soft layers around the sides of your head.

Head on over to check out the rest of the shortcuts that you can use in order to make your face pop out, but in a good way.

Must-Read: Gaining Muscle Mass http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/04/26/must-read-gaining-muscle-mass/ http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/04/26/must-read-gaining-muscle-mass/#comments Fri, 26 Apr 2013 12:30:45 +0000 RickP http://www.tsbmag.com/?p=38674 muscle1Here’s the thing about creating a sculpture. The most important thing about the project aren’t the tools to sculpt, and isn’t the idea that you have, but instead it’s the actual bit of rock that you have to chisel through. Without the rock, or marble, or whatever it is you’re sculpting, you wouldn’t be able to ever have anything. The same goes for sculpting your body. In order to become chiseled, first you need something to chisel. Which means you have to have enough body mass to cut through.

In which case, today we’re heading over to Men’s Fitness in order to check out the various rules for how to gain weight. Among their steps is this, the vital first one:

RULE 1: Go Big or Go Home

Heading to the gym to lift just for the sake of lifting won’t get you anywhere faster. You’ve got to go with the exercises and movement patterns that give you more bang for your buck. “Far too many guys spend time working on isolation exercises searching for hypertrophy,” says Colorado-based certified trainer and fitness writer, Jeremey DuVall. You want to program your workouts with moves like the deadlift, squat and overhead press. “Bigger exercises require more muscle recruitment and make for a more efficient workout,” he adds. John Annillo, CSCS of Training for Warriors agrees, “Your body works as a unit, so drop the isolation exercises and train it like one. The more muscles (or joints) that are working during any given exercise the better.” Trainer, fitness writer/model Parker Cote also believes “big moves” are especially important for beginners saying, “it’s the best way to expedite the mass gain process.”

So head on over to the link above and check out the other rules for how to gain that muscle mass that you need in order to get bigger, stronger, faster, etc.

Must-Read: Morning Routine http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/04/24/must-read-morning-routine/ http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/04/24/must-read-morning-routine/#comments Wed, 24 Apr 2013 12:30:44 +0000 RickP http://www.tsbmag.com/?p=38669 They’re wrong about breakfast, you know. About it being the most important meal of the day. It’s as important as the others. But what they’re right about is that the morning is the most important part of your day. That’s where you set the stage for the rest of it. If you get up out of bed in a sloggish way, chances are the rest of your day is going to suck. If you get out and start working out right away, well, at the very least you’ll have that to hang your hat on for the rest of the day.

wake1So today, we’re heading over to Men’s Health where they have a full listing of ways to make your morning routine, well, routine. Among the advice that they offer:

3. Next go through Morgenstern’s four Ds: delete, delay, diminish, and delegate.

Delete: Eliminate the things you really don’t need to do. There’s little chance your boss will take “I was wrapped up in Sports Center” as an acceptable excuse for being tardy. And never check your e-mail or Blackberry. “It distracts your energy, puts you in a bad mood, and trains people that you’re available at all hours,” Morgenstern says. “And then you become trapped by it.”

Delay: Or, more accurately, do something at a different time. Identify the things you could do in advance. Most of these are simple—picking out your clothes, making your lunch, packing your gym bag and briefcase (leave them by the door so you don’t forget them)—but all of these little tasks add up.

Diminish: Create shortcuts where you can. If you enjoy long showers, consider saving those for nights and cutting your morning bathing to a quickie.

Delegate: Seek help from others for the things others could do. Could your daughter walk the dog? Or maybe you can convince your girlfriend to make you a portion of whatever she has for breakfast.

Head on over to check out the other vital advice, and then get to starting off your day in the right way.

Must-Read: Healthier than Wheat Thins http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/04/22/must-read-healthier-than-wheat-thins/ http://www.tsbmag.com/2013/04/22/must-read-healthier-than-wheat-thins/#comments Mon, 22 Apr 2013 12:30:53 +0000 RickP http://www.tsbmag.com/?p=38615 what1So much of food is marketing, especially insomuch as what a product is named. (If Coca-Cola was renamed “pig snot,” odds are you won’t down so much of it during lunch.) But sometimes that works by tricking consumers into thinking that what they’re eating is actually good for them, when it reality it’s just as terrible as a lot of the foods out there. This is what we started thinking about when we came across this extraordinary article over at AskMen.com detailing a list of items that are, in actuality, healthier than the beloved “wheat thins” that are all the rage in dieting circles.I’ll let the author explain his reasoning:

I’m not here to point fingers. But recently, I became mildly addicted to the new onslaught of flavored Wheat Thins. These things are incredible, and their name worked so well: “wheat” and “thins.” My mind accepted that I was snacking healthily. But upon further analysis, one thing became clear. The Wheat Thin may not be much safer than some other treats.

So, he made a list of the items that are actually “healthier” than the new flavored wheat thins. And guess what, these things actually taste pretty great. Among the list of items that you can eat and, amazingly, not feel as bad about yourself then if you ate an actual wheat thin:

Klondike Bar: 6.2 grams protein

Klondike bars are a small and satisfying treat that don’t have nearly as many calories as a fast food milkshake, while also offering a small amount of protein as a consolation prize. Enjoy — just not every day.

Sign us up for a few of those! Head on over to the post to check out the rest.
