This next article is part of an ongoing series here at TSB Magazine called The Success Principles. The series is based on the 64 principles laid out by Jack Canfield in his course of the same name. If you’re new, I always suggest starting any series from the beginning.

Principle 35: 99% is a Bitch, 100% is a Breeze

In life the spoils of victory go to those who make a 100% commitment to the outcome, to those who have a “no matter what it takes” attitude. They give it their all; they put everything they have into getting their desired result- Canfield

Some of these principles just seem to zero in on some of the exact issues that I’m going through in my life. The “no exceptions” rule is one of those principles. I’ve been struggling lately to stay consistent with a couple new habits I’m trying to implement. Writing this post has cleared my mind, and made me understand what I have to do.

The basis of this rule implies that successful people make 100% commitment to certain things. This means it becomes non-negotiable.

Why is this easier? Because if I make a commitment to wake up early every morning to go to the gym, that is it. I never have to think about it again. There are no exceptions. There are no alternatives. I don’t have to wake up every morning and think “should I start my day early today or sleep another hour” nor do I have to deal with feelings of regret or disappointment on the days I sleep in. It frees up all of that energy normally spent on internal debate, which can now be used for more productive means of achieving success.

Anthony Robbins suggests in one of his programs to create an hour of power for yourself every day, no exceptions. This hour of power consists of a mix of working out, goal planning, and visualizations. If were to decide to implement this… there are no excuses. Hung over? You’re still doing it. On vacation? Still doing it. You just do it.

I have been a vegetarian for over 7 years now. While in Argentina recently a friend said to me, “The beef is the best in the world down here. What will it hurt if you have one steak?”

The answer was that if broke my discipline even just this one time in Argentina, it would be that much easier to break it the next time I craved meat.

This is why smokers trying to quit who try to “just smoke one cigarette” soon find themselves back to a pack a day. Once you let yourself know you have options… you’re likely to lose the discipline you’ve built.

Whether your discipline is to read for one hour, practice the piano 5 days a week, make two sales calls every day, learn a new language, do 50 sit ups, run 6 miles, meditate- or whatever else you need to achieve your goals- commit 100% to those daily disciplines that will get you there.

The Best Damn Sports Blogs. Period.

Like you need more reasons to waste time. Well, if you’re a humongous sports fan like me (you bet your ass I’ll be watching all three NFL games on Thanksgiving) then you’ve probably got a few sports subscriptions in your reader.

I can tell you, if you enjoy reading blogs, some of the best blogs on the Web are sports-related. Why? Because the writers are uber passionate on the subject and they have something to write about every single day. Not only are the sports blogs well written, but they often break news and report on stuff well in advance of the traditional sports channels. Plus, you get perspectives and writing styles that are cutting edge. Forget the hacks at ESPN.com.

Here’s my personal Top 5 sports blogs. This list is unabashedly subjective and has nothing to do with ranking, traffic, subscribers, or anything like that. If you got a blog you like to read, post in comments.

The Top 5

1. Every Day Should Be Saturday. Obviously, since I’m a Gator fan, I’m horribly biased, but EDSBS is brilliant, funny, creative, and makes me happy in my pants. The site’s owner, Orson Swindle, is a Gator alum, and he just might be the funniest blogger in the blogosphere. Seriously. His shit is tight. And none of that sissy stuff, either, there’s plenty of cursing, NSFW pics, and naming of genitalia. Lovely.

Okay, besides my crush on the writing, the site is delightfully low tech, with zero SEO, horrible organization (try finding a post from two years ago), and a front end that looks like a crappy Wordpress default theme. Oh wait, that’s because it is! EDSBS proves that content is king.

2. Bad Jocks. I recently discovered this one and it’s insanely brilliant. Content focuses on naughty behavior by athletes, coaches, and fans in the sporting world. Cheerleaders having sex in bathrooms? Check. High school coaches having sex with underage athletes? Check. Hazing? Check. Cops tasering rabid fans? Check and check. The tagline is “Where COPS meets Sportscenter.” They even have Top Naked Athletes and Top HS Sex Scandals sections. If you’re a dude and you love naughty cheerleaders (duh we all do), bookmark this one immediately.

3. Kissing Suzy Kolber. Dedicated purely to NFL, this site is hilarious. They use tons of swear words, post pictures of hotass cheerleaders, and make game picks. One of their guest posters is God, who watches NFL and controls the games. This I did not know, but it’s always good to get The Almighty’s perspective prior to laying $50 on the Cowboys-Seahawks game. FYI, KSK won the Best Sports Blog Award for 2007. Add this one to your aggregrator because you’re gonna love it.

4. Deadspin. More awesome bullshit, this one is part of the Gawker network, so you know everything has an ironic, funny spin…One feature is pics of athlete doing really stupid things after hours, like getting wasted and having a penis written on your forehead or female stars acting like idiots. They cover all sports, college and pro. Love it.

5. Busted Coverage. In the same vein as Deadspin, Busted Coverage does off-beat coverage only. Here’s a quote from their About Us page: Busted Coverage is an independent sports blog with a focus on booze, ladies and football…We strive to give our readers the off-beat material you don’t see on television or read in your sports pages.

More stories of naughty athletes, photos of extremely hot cheerleaders, and general ridiculousness from the sports world. They posted a link to a 19-year-old Seahawks cheerleader who is so absurdly, sickeningly hot I almost punched my girlfriend in the face and dumped her after reading this post.

Enjoy! Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Our first article covered Thermogenic supplements and our second article covered non stimulant fat burners. In this article we are going to talk about Thyroid regulating supplements.

Thyroid Regulating Fat Loss Supplements

A healthy thyroid gland is vital to maintaining a normal metabolism and preventing the accumulation of extra body fat. If your thyroid gland is not operating normally, your metabolism will be drastically slowed, which will cause your body to burn far fewer calories than you normally would, and make you feel tired and sluggish. Furthermore, an inactive thyroid gland will cause water retention, leading to cellulite and excess weight gain.

The goal of thyroid regulating supplements is to kick start the metabolism via the thyroid gland. The most common ingredients found in these type of fat loss supplements is guggul and forskolin. These supplements actually act as a sort of replacement for what the thyroid would produce.

Guggul products are derived from the gum resin of the small, thorny mukul tree (Commiphora mukul) of India’s semi-arid plains. Guggul increases the production of thyroid hormones, which lower the levels of serum lipids. Guggul increases T3 (tryiidothyronine) levels in animals; T3 is the conversion end product of T4, which comes from the thyroid. Increasing the thyroid levels causes more fat to be burned and decreasing the levels increase the likelihood of fat being stored.

Forskolin is a vasodilator, that is when blood vessels in the body become wider following the relaxation of the smooth muscle in the vessel wall. The job of this ingredient is basically to make sure the hormones are working properly.

Popular Thyroid Regulating Supplements

I am not a personal trainer or nutritionist, nor have I ever used a thyroid regulating supplement. In my quest to put together a complete list of fat loss supplements I actually discovered these products for the first time. Unlike the thermogenics and non stimulants which I have used before, I can not vouge for the safety or effectiveness of these products. I will however list the most popular ones that I’ve come across while doing my research.

Syntax Guggulbolic Extreme: Guggulbolic Extreme combines 30mg of pure E & Z Guggulsterones along with a special, dark brown guggul extract which is standardized for an ultra-potent 6% total guggulsteroids and which conforms to all Ayurvedic standards.

Below are the ingredients:

Guggul EZ100TM 30mg

Guggul Resin Extract 500mg

(standardized for 30mg total guggulsteroids)

Universal Animal Cuts 3: Animal Cuts is known as a thermogenic and a thyroid supporter due to its massive ingredients list. These basic ingredients make up the classic E/C/A stack that most people find effective (up to 95% of all fat burners are based on this model). But the fact is, the E/C/A stack may not work well for everyone.

The products contains too many ingredients to list… if you’re interested click here to see the label.

These formulas appear to be for guys who aren’t seeing results from standard exercise and healthy diet. I haven’t found any negative side effects listed for Thyroid regulators but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. I will say that they sell well on Bodybuilding.com which is a pretty reputable and biggest online supplement retailer.

Of course supplements are only valuable if you have a solid work out routine to follow on a daily basis.

Quality women aren’t particularly rare if you know how to spot them.

Most men make a huge mistake - they look for “surface compatibility” instead of potential in their women.

See, men look for women that already like the things they like - the same sport, or kind of music, or hobby. Things along those lines.

Instead, the #1 factor you want to look for is potential. With your guidance, could she become a strong, amazing woman? How high is her potential?

Three Quick Checks to Evaluate if a Woman is Quality

1) Base Character: Also known as potential. Does she trend towards being open-minded, selfless, giving? How about the things you specifically want - you can look for a woman who trends towards “traditional” or a woman that’s generally “modern” in her thinking, depending on what you want.

How to figure out if she’s got a good base character: Ask casually, in conversation, when it’s relevant. You don’t want to seem like you’re interrogating, interviewing, or grilling your new potential dream girl. Ask casually. If you like art, you ask casually, “Ah, do you consider yourself an artistic person?” or “What kind of
artistic things are you into?” If she answers yes, casually ask for more details.

You ask, “You consider yourself to be an ambitious person?” She says yes. You say, “Very cool - What kind of stuff do you want out of life?”

2) Relationship Track Record: Pay attention to the track record. Excuse me, this is important, so I’m going to write it a bunch of times in bold.

PAY ATTENTION TO HER TRACK RECORD. PEOPLE ALMOST ALWAYS REPEAT THEIR TRACK RECORD. 99.999999% OF THE TIME PEOPLE REPEAT THEIR TRACK RECORD!

People will generally treat you the way they’ve treated others their whole life. Just remember - if she’s got a bad track record, there’ll always be a good reason. Yes, that’s true, don’t listen to the reasons or write it off when she explains why. If she’s been bad to men in her life, make sure you move on ASAP.

Assessing her track record: Again, casually. Don’t interview. Don’t bring subjects about exes up (that can make you seem insecure), but if it does come up, ask casually, “Why’d you split up?” Also, guys who are thinking of marrying a divorcee - if she made life hell on her husband in court, cut and run ASAP no matter how much of a jerk he seemed (she’ll always make him seem like a jerk). Ugly previous divorce = Cut and run.

3) Family Background: There’s two kinds of people. People who actively study the problems with their family, figure out why they exist, and seek to really better themselves. Those people are amazing, and it’s how you hear about rags to riches stories, and people who came from nothing going on to do amazing things.

The other kind of people, who don’t think and study on their background, wind up repeating the past because it’s all they know.

Assessing her family: Again, casual. No interrogation. Just get to know her family and what they’re up to, what kind of people they are, does she like them? If they seem messed up, take a look to see if she’s done opposite things as her family and if she understands why things happened.

The Test: Is She a Quality Girl?

Here’s the quick acid test. Does she score AWESOME on two of the following three?

*Does she have an awesome base character, where she can grow into even being a better person with you?

*Has she been good to previous men in her life?

*Do you like her family? Would you want someone like her parents in your life?

If her family is a little bit whacky but she’s been great to all the guys she’s dated and seems really friendly, open-minded, and giving, go for it.

If she’s got a great family and great personality, but she’s had an ugly breakup or two, that might be worth exploring.

If she’s been great to all the men in her life and her family is awesome, but you’re not sure if she can grow into being an even better person with you, it still might be worth a go.

Just make sure you definitely have two out of the three in good shape!

Sincerely

Sebastian Drake

There are a few reasons to keep buying more clothes besides having more styles. One of my favorite reasons to have a bigger wardrobe is that you can get away with doing laundry a little less often. I am not saying to wear dirty clothes, just that you have more options for outfits so you may not wear the same thing as many times as you normally would. Say a staple white button down shirt.

At the same time, these clothes will hold up longer and look nicer since they will be put through the washer less over their lifetime. I guess it kind of all ties in with my recent series, How to redo your wardrobe. Keep buying new clothes here and there and eventually you will start discovering old items that still look good!

For instance, some of my best pieces have been in my wardrobe the longest. The other day I started wearing my dads leather jacket from the 70’s. Nothing says vintage like your parents closet!

This next article is part of an ongoing series here at TSB Magazine called The Success Principles. The series is based on the 64 principles laid out by Jack Canfield in his course of the same name. If you’re new, I always suggest starting any series from the beginning.

Principle 34: Develop Four New Success Habits a Year

Its been said by many different coaches, teaches, and psychologists that the habits you keep shape the life you live.

Habits are all those things we do without really thinking about them. Some habits can be helpful, like the habit of going to the gym every day or saving a portion of your paycheck. Other habits can hurt our chances of success, like not returning phone calls or partying too much. Whatever habits you currently have established are producing your current level of results. If you want to live a more successful life you will probably find that you need to add a few more productive habits and drop a few of your negative habits.

The fascinating thing about habits is that the results of them seldom show up right away. If you get in a habit of eating healthy and going to the gym, you might feel and look the same at first. But at some point down the road, you will look in the mirror and realize that you are in the best shape of your life. Same goes for negative habits. If you get in the habit of procrastinating taking action… before you know it you will wake up and your life will be half over without the results you wanted.

Canfield gives two action steps for changing habits:

1. The first step is to make a list of all the habits that keep you unproductive or that might negatively impact your future. Ask other to help you objectively identify what they believe are your limiting habits.

2. Once you identified your negative habits, the second step is to choose a better, more productive success habit and develop systems that will help support them.

For example if you goal is to get to the gym every morning, one system you might put in place is to go to bed 1 hour earlier and set your alarm ahead.

What could you achieve if you took on four new habits a year?

If you use Canfield’s strategy and develop just few new positive habits a year, then after 5 years you’ll have 20 successful habits. What kind of life do you think you will be living then?

I would always advise initiating new habits one at a time. Choose a new habit to initiate and spend about 3 months creating it so that it almost becomes second nature to you. Once you have successfully instilled that habit, add another one.

It is easy to get motivated for a week or two and then forget all about it. The key is to really push yourself through the first month. If you can make it through an entire month, chances are the next month will be a lot easier to remember and implement. If you find that you are having trouble remembering write yourself notes in places that you will see them.

Are you having trouble setting and sticking with goals? If you are I’d recommend The Ultimate Goals Program. You won’t believe how much more success you will experience once you get clear about your goals, and set dates for their accomplishment.

Anyone who is a regular reader here at TSB Magazine knows that I’m a fan of Tim Ferriss for both his enlightening book The Four Hour Work Week, and more importantly for his general outlook on life and his ability achieve phenomenal results in just about everything he does.

Tim recently announced that he has a pilot TV show airing this Thursday, 12/4, at 11pm ET/PT on The History Channel.

Tim, who is known for his uncanny ability to immerse himself in a subject and learn things at record speed, will be given tested each week.

The concept is simple: I have one week to attempt to learn what is usually learned over 5-20 years. I either crash and burn — or survive by the skin of my teeth — in a final test (trial by fire) each time.

I for one hope that the show gets picked up, and highly recommend that each and every one of you check the show out this Thursday night. I don’t think there is anyone in the world that couldn’t stand to learn a few things from Tim, who has accomplished more before his 30th birthday then most people will in their lifetime.
