Must-Read: Instant Cooking Class

One of the things on that list of New Years Resolutions for 2012 for myself is “Learning How to Cook.” Which, in itself, is a fine and noble pursuit. The problem, though, is that that same exact resolution has been on my To Do list for probably the past five years. For whatever reason, I start with good intentions, get through about a month of trying out a few different kinds of pastas (which is the one thing I can cook extraordinarily well) and then just give up.

The big reason behind this is because I was never taught the basics of cooking. I don’t mean to blame my mother, but my sisters now their way around the kitchen and I certainly don’t. Not that I was always pestering her to show me what was what in the kitchen, but a little guidance certainly could’ve helped. And then if I want to take a cooking class, well, that’s another bunch of money I’d have to drop for that, and it’s just not an enticing prospect when I don’t even know if (a) I’d like it; (b) I’d be good at it. Plus, the whole point of saving money by cooking at home kind of goes out the window when dropping a handful of hundreds on an actual culinary class.

Luckily, there’s this amazing group of videos over at Men’s Health this week that gives some pretty great instant lessons for the various cooking basics. Things that, really, you should’ve learned over the year but you think is too late to learn this late in your life, so instead you just settle for ordering out again. But really, it’s simple.

For example, check out this video about how to caramelize onions:

A whole lot of the others are worth checking out too, so click on the link above and start your free (and great) cooking class now!
