Supersets Versus Exhaustion Sets

One of the hardest things for a person to do, who has been lifting weights for a decent amount of time, is to think up new ways of continually pushing their body and keeping their muscles guessing. Ideally, training schedules should be changed every six-eight weeks to prevent plateau and to keep motivation levels high.

One way you can do this is introduce a new exercise. Novices usually benefit from this option but for experienced lifters it?s more like a case of d?j?-vu. The other alternative is to vary the number of sets and repetitions you do for each exercise.

Over at Fitness Beans, they consider two advanced lifting techniques known as supersets and exhaustion sets. Find out which one is better by clicking on the link now:

Supersets

This technique requires you to perform at least two sets of exercises back to back prior to any rest interval. An example of this during an arm workout might be; dumbbell bicep curls followed immediately by weighted triceps dips.

Exhaustion Sets

As the name suggests, the purpose of this exercise technique is to work you and your target muscles to exhaustion using an array of loads. An example of this technique can be demonstrated through the bench press. You initially select a load and perform as many as you can.

Ultimately, it will be your own personal training goals which will determine what exercise you go for. However, even if this is the case, the other exercise method should not be totally ignored. Your training career is long and at various points you?re going to need as many variations and alternatives as possible. Like we mentioned earlier, keeping your muscles guessing is key to continual muscle growth and hypertrophy.

Also remember that supersets and exhaustion sets are advanced training techniques and shouldn?t be performed by novices.
