Must-Read: What Not to Text
Texting is always difficult. There’s a weird mine field that you have to navigate that you can’t really see at all. Not only do you have to worry about people possibly not reading your tone right — as anyone who has ever tried to be sarcastic during a texting session before can attest to — but also you have to know when to send them, and if you need to include a photo or something, and just try to determine exactly what their response means. It is a mess. But also, it’s so much easier and sometimes better to use than the phone. It’s just you have to know the rules first before delving into text game.
So today we’re heading over to Men’s Fitness where they have a list of things not to send a lady while practicing the art of text flirting. For example, among the various ways that you can screw it up for yourself are these mess of texts:
1. Using Abbreviations
Digital dating experts Debra Goldstein and Olivia Baniuszewicz, co-authors of Flirtexting, say abbreviations show a clear lack of effort. ?Texting is a casual platform, but you still have to be somewhat buttoned up.? So spelling at the level of a 7th grader neither charms nor entertains?unless you send, ?Sup, u out?? This gem evokes laughter from all women?just at you, not with you. Eli Manning?s SNL skit sums it up.
2. Mass Texting
Ladies can smell a mass text from a mile away ? especially when Sarah and Lauren are actually roommates. You might not kiss and tell, but your texts are read aloud to, picked apart by, and compared with her nearest friend. So make sure you get her name right.
We’ve been burned by both of those before, so take that as a lesson. Head on over to the above link to check out the other 8 suggestions of what not to do, and then make sure to make the text game worth it for you.
