Must-Read: How To Golf Correctly
Finally, the winter is calming down and the snow is melting away. Which means that it’s time for one of those great traditions: The first tee off of the year. If you’ve played golf before, then you know the drill. But if you haven’t, it could be a tough environment. While the game of golf is simple to understand, there’s a whole lot of unwritten rules that you can only learn after holes and holes and holes of experience. It can be intimidating if you’ve never played, and especially if no one is there to teach you the “rules” of the game.
And so today we’re heading on over to Men’s Health where they have a list of things not to ever do on a golf course. For instance, among the things you should avoid:
6. You always wait your turn to hit.
Wait?that?s a mistake? Yes. Good golfers agree beforehand to play ?ready golf,? meaning if you?re at your ball, have your club, and know your shot, just play it. Sure, the guy farthest away from the hole is technically supposed to hit first. That?s in a serious competition. This isn?t serious. Go ahead and hit, and keep the group moving.
7. You pace off yardage like Tiger?s caddy.
And check the cart?s GPS. And peer into your rangefinder. Dude, it?s a buck-sixty, maybe 165 yards because the pin?s back, and it?s slightly downhill but into the wind. It?s not like you can calibrate your swing with exactitude. Your pacing and squinting won?t change this: It?s a hard 6 or an easy 5. Decide and hit.
So head on over to the above linked article to check out the rest, and then get out there and get to golfing.
