3 OkCupid Tips for Online Dating Newbies
You’ve decided to venture into the online dating world via OkCupid. After uploading a few pictures and filling out your profile, you’re ready to scroll through the endless pages of female profiles.
Here’s a little advice to make the process more efficient:
Many women create online dating profiles and abandon them after constant streams of messages from men asking for sex. Even mundane, uninspired messages that say nothing more than Hi or What’s up? discourage many female online daters to the point that they being to neglect their inboxes.
So don’t waste time clicking through a bunch of profiles that haven’t been logged into in months.
Setting your search filter to show you girls that are online at that moment increases the chances she’ll read your message and send a response as soon as possible. Otherwise, online dating can become a tedious process with girls taking several days to respond to your messages.
On the mobile app, as pictured above, most women’s profiles will have some red text at the bottom that says she “replies very selectively.” A much smaller portion of women will have yellow text that says “replies selectively” or green text that says “replies often.”
Pay no attention to those distinctions. Women send a low percentage of responses because of the sheer volume of messages they receive. There aren’t enough hours in a day to type out responses to all of them.
Worry about the quality of the messages you’re sending. Distinguish yourself from all the men soliciting for sex or only saying Hi or What’s up? and women won’t be grading you on the same curve.
The benefits you’d be getting amount to superfluous bells and whistles that won’t help you get girls on dates.
What’s the advantage of knowing whether a girl read your message? She either responds or she doesn’t, that’s the only metric that matters.
Do you need to see all the girls who like your profile? You won’t be interested in many of them anyway.
What about the ability to search for girls based on their body types, personalities or attractiveness? You don’t need OkCupid to rate those things for you. Judge for yourself. After all, research shows women tend to lie about themselves on their profiles more than men do, so just because she lists her body type as “slender” or “athletic” doesn’t mean “curvy” or “full figured” wouldn’t be more accurate.
Here’s a comment from a Reddit user: “[OkCupid’s A-List] hasn’t gotten me any dates, but I do enjoy the anonymous browsing and ratings filter.”
So while it does offer a few fun tools, it’s nothing you can’t live without. You can use the free version of OkCupid to go on as many dates as you want, find a girlfriend, or whatever else your goals are.
