Top Five Movies (and Performances) of Mila Kunis

Even though we?ll always view celebrities from afar, we still get glimpses of the person behind the curtain. (Get what I did there? You see, Mila Kunis stars in ?Oz the Great and Powerful,? based on the world created by L. Frank Baum, originally portrayed in ?The Wizard of Oz? where Oz was the man behind the curtain. Really, you should have known that.) For example, when James Franco challenged Stephen Colbert to a Tolkein-off while promoting ?Oz,? we found out that he read ?The Silmarillion? in his spare time. Then we also found out that when the gauntlet is thrown down on Middle-Earth trivia, Colbert won?t hesitate to bring out the big guns of knowledge.

However, that moment may have been talked about beforehand, so maybe it was a bit rehearsed. I don?t know. It?s tough to know where a person begins and a persona ends sometimes. I should add that I?m also not talking about those small moments dealing with stressful situations when people snap when chased by paparazzi or they have their meals interrupted by a rude attention seeker. No, I?m talking about moments where it seems genuine personality shines through rehearsed and pat answers to an endless parade of questions.

When the world can read about a person like Mila in the pages of magazine after magazine and watch her responses on entertainment show after entertainment show, everyone knows her name, her face and her interests and probably her responses before she even lays eyes on the questioner. Still, instead of becoming an automaton, Mila keeps finding new ways to make those interviews interesting. To salute her, here are her top five performances that go beyond movies and a couple movies because they are awesome.

5. Addressing a reporter on behalf of Justin Timberlake

During promotions for ?Friends with Benefits,? a reporter asked Timberlake a question and Mila answered in Russian. What does that tell us as fans? Speaking a foreign language is dead sexy. Like Max Read for Gawker writes, the best thing is watching Timberlake?s face. I know if I ever went to Russia with Mila that would be my look most of the time.

4. Accepting invitation to the Marine Ball

During the same press junket, Sgt. Scott Moore asked Mila to the Marine Corps Ball and when she found out about it, she didn?t hem or haw, she just said sure, why not. A few months later, she?s at the ball with Sgt. Moore. I know I?m not alone in loving that spontaneity.

3. Interview with BBC Correspondent for ?Oz?

The reason I decided to write the post like this came from this interview for ?Oz the Great and Powerful.? The fact that she finds the ?lad bomb? (a shot of Jagermeister dropped into a double vodka and Red Bull) disgusting is major points in my book, and double major points because she?ll try it anyway.

2. Ted

I have now heard from at least two friends that this is the funniest movie they?ve seen in a while. I can be a bit critical, but knowing my feelings about Mila and anthropomorphic bears, I have to give it a try.

1. Black Swan

I?ve already talked about Black Swan when I talked about Natalie Portman, but I think I may have given Mila a bit of a short shrift when she did an amazing job as the real and imagined rival.
