Supplements That Can Actually Be Helpful to Take

If you were taking every supplement that’s available out there you wouldn’t have time to do much else. Not to mention, a lot of suggested supplements aren’t for everyone or really aren’t that helpful for anyone. Here are some however that can actually be pretty beneficial to take.

Vitamin D

We get vitamin D from the sun but there is no harm in taking it in supplement form as well. Our body uses vitamin D in over 1000 different genetic processes in the body like boosting our immune system, synthesizing our sex hormones, decreasing inflammation, and helping to keep our bones strong.

Collagen

Collagen is the protein that is found in connective tissue of animals, including humans. Taking collagen supplements can help you skin, tendons, joints, ligaments, and even your brain. Collagen provides the body with the neurotransmitter glycine which protects the sensory pathways in the brain.

Vitamin C

Vitamin c is a really great antioxidant and it’s water soluble which means it’s pretty hard to take too much. If you do ingest more than you need your body will just get rid of it through your digestive system which mind speed things up a bit but generally won’t cause other complications. The body uses vitamin c to help keep your joints flexible, cut down on oxidative stress, promote collagen health, and it makes your skin look healthy.

Glutathione

Glutathione is an antioxidant that the body produces, but taking more can be a benefit. It actually helps to support other antioxidants to make them stronger, so it’s a great supplement to increase the power of vitamins C and E. It also reduces inflammation in the body and can assist with the removal of heavy metals. Some versions of the supplement work better than others so be sure and do your research on the best brands.

Magnesium

Over half of all people in the United States are deficient in magnesium, and we need it for more than 300 processes in the body including stress reduction and keeping our metabolism working properly. Magnesium also helps us sleep, so if you’re having trouble relaxing or winding down at night taking some then can be a big help.

Probiotics

We can get probiotics through food as well, but taking a supplement is always a good idea to cover all the basis. Probiotics provide the body with healthy bacteria that it needs to keep the digestive system working properly, as well as support your immune system. Taking probiotics is great for anyone, but you’ll really notice a difference if you’re currently having any digestive issues. Be sure and take a supplement that is coated so that it will make it to your intestines without dissolving first.

Fish Oil

We need omega-3 fatty acids to support the brain and reduce inflammation in the body (including tired achy joints), and a fish oil supplement is a great way to load up on it. Even if you eat two to three servings of fish each week you should still take a supplement to make sure that you’re getting enough.
