20 Tips for Your First Marathon

I’m thankful that more people are starting to take their health and fitness seriously. People are using tech to help, we’re getting smarter about what we eat, we’re seeing how a fit body boosts every other aspect of our lives. It seems that of all the exercises that have been around in both the pro and novice athletes repertoire, running long distance remains at the top of the list.

For good reason, we like to run. It has a huge range of?health benefits, so much so, that if we did nothing else, we’d still be considered healthy and fit simply because we can run. It makes sense then that running marathons is an incredibly popular activity. It’s also one that’s highly recommended for all those that haven’t tried it. But it’s not easy — that’s the point! Thankfully there are some tips to help, put together by the Huffington Post, including what you should be listening to:

8. Do a long run without music at least once. What if it rains on race day and you can’t bring a phone, or what if your headphones break? Get used to running without music so if you ever have to run in silence, you won’t freak out.

10. Listen to podcasts. When you are running with your phone, make time go by faster by listening to a podcast. You’ll get absorbed in conversation and forget how far you’ve ran. It’s magical.

Music and audio are an often overlooked aspect of running, sure we need the music we enjoy and that gets our feet pumping, but we don’t give a second thought to what might happen without it. Check out the rest of the article for the other tips and pointers to running a successful marathon.
