So if you read the Playboy Party post then you know that PetetheFreshman and I were at SXSW this year to see the interactive and music festival.  While we were down there we made a lot of music contacts (in addition to our current) and have since then decided to bring you a new music section. Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be the standard top40 BS you see all over the net. We are going to provide you new emerging trends and our take on the various independent artists hitting the scene.

To start it off, I want to talk about one of the radio stations we met down at SXSW who was based back in the east coast by us; and more importantly…in the metro area! They go by the name of East Village Radio and I have been listening to them here and there since I got home. I love the fact that they have lots of dj’s spinning all different genres. Right now I am listening to “The Big Cover Up with Small Change”. Good stuff I must say.

We pretty much met the entire staff and ended up throwing down a few beers and “hits” throughout the event. They had a nice booth at the Fader Fort (4 day concert with free liquor) which they were playing all their stuff through skull branded headphones so if you wanted a break form the music, a dj was there to save your life.

The reason I like EVR was they had a very open and understanding attitude to whats going on in the music market. They are embracing the web and making it their strong point. You can already listen to all their stuff streamed right to your computer at any time, they pretty much scream the future of Internet radio. Some people think itunes, pod-casting networks or whatever free crap there is out there is the way to go, maybe if you are a marketing guru or some drama seeking lifecaster, but if you want to keep the independant feel, you need to run your own stuff and stream it yourself.

Lets face it, Music and Media are heavily dependent on image…why would it be any different online?
