Michael Bay to Direct Extraterrestrial “Ninja Turtles” Flick

Attention children of the late 80s and early 90s: Michael Bay is not out to destroy your childhood. The uproar over plans for an upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is unfounded, according to director Jonathan Liebesman.

Go ninja, go ninja, crap?

In case you don?t follow Channel 6 news, Michael Bay (?Transformers,? ?Armageddon?) is directing a movie based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, slated for a Christmas 2013 release. The movie, simply titled ?Ninja Turtles,? is still in the planning stages, but has already been met with huge amounts of negative criticism from fans. Shell Heads are upset that the film appears to be about an ?alien race,? rather than a bunch of mutants.

According to a recent article for FlickDirect, diehard fans have nothing to worry about. Liebesman, who was originally signed on to direct the film, told reporters at a press conference that ?Ninja Turtles? will keep in line with the mythos of the franchise:

??Everything will tie in with the mythology. Fans will be extremely excited with what we’re coming up with.?

Apparently, the ooze that spawned the turtles has always been from an alien source. Nerd alert!

?Ninja Turtles? is being developed with Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the original ?Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? comic book. According to Liebesman, Bay?s movie will simple expand on the franchise, thanks in part to a big budget.

As a once huge fan of the series, I?m interested in a modern-day Turtles movie, alien turtles or not. If films like ?Iron Man? and ?The Dark Knight? can make comic book heroes look less nerdy, why can?t a bunch of pizza-eating anthropomorphic turtles?
