Must-Read: Very Manly Barbershops

Haircuts!

Haircuts are a strange thing to us. We don’t enjoy looking ragged with our various hairs flowing in a mess of craziness, but we also aren’t really excited about either spending a lot of money on a haircut OR having to get one where there’s all sorts of upkeep to the damn thing. It’s tricky. We want to not look gross, but be able to act gross, which is generally the way we live the entirety of our lives.

Which is all a long way of saying that, we don’t spend a lot of time in barber shops or salons or any other place where people will do a variety of things to your hair. But that’s not to say that whenever we walk past one, where everyone seems to be sitting around and bullshitting, we don’t get a little envious. Which is an even LONGER way of saying that that’s probably what got us all up-in-arms about this entry over at Men’s Health about the most manly barbershops in America. Here, for instance, is where we’re heading if we ever end up in Pennsylvania:

Ralph’s Barbershop (Glenside, PA)

Sports fans could spend hours at Ralph’s, which is stacked with two stories of autographs, pictures, and other memorabilia. Owner and third-generation barber Ralph Siani is rabid about the Phillies and his family’s business, which has been in operation since 1922. The place even features a portable barber chair where his grandfather used to cut General George S. Patton’s hair. Regulars are usually lined up patiently in the waiting room, where they can grab an authentic seat that was extracted from Philly’s defunct Veteran’s Stadium.

Know before you go: Siani says a lot of clients look for spur-of-the-moment services, so walk-ins are always welcome.

Head over to the list and check out the rest. And then, if you’re so inclined, let us know what your favorite barber shop is in the comments below.
