5 Reasons Why You Can’t Out-Exercise An Unhealthy Diet

When we get older, one of the home truths we have to face is that we won?t be able to keep the weight off like we could in our teenage years. Working out is all well and good, but the effects can be wiped out instantly if you stick to an unhealthy diet. Here, we list five reasons why you can?t out-exercise an unhealthy diet:

1. You?re Not A Professional Sportsman

A top athletes diet will contain tons of pasta and other carbohydrates which they?ll easily burn during whatever sport they play and train for. That?s why you need to take care in counting the amount of calories you?re taking in, as a two mile jog is not going to be enough exercise to compensate for a dense carbohydrate diet. Instead, pick grilled or poached chicken breast and save the spaghetti for the post-workout meal.

2. You Won?t Be Able To Hit Your Optimal Level

Foods which are packed with sugar and salt will decrease your energy levels and can disrupt your sleeping patterns. What you really need is protein and carbs to help recover from exercise and repair muscle tissue. They also give you the fuel needed to push through a tough workout which will go a long way to changing your physique and fitness in general. Experts believe a rough diet guideline should be 30 percent protein, 40 percent carbs and 30 percent fat.

3. You Won?t Feel Like Exercising

Over-indulging in high-fat foods or not getting enough calories will make you feel lethargic and less driven to exercise. Eating well and sticking to healthy greens, protein and a certain amount of carbs helps the body to function better and improve energy levels.

4. You Could Become Sick Or Suffer Injuries

Studies have shown that a low-carb and low-fat diet may raise chances of overuse injuries, such as stress fractures and tendonitis. This is because you?re muscles and joints aren’t strong enough to protect themselves from high impact exercise, due to the lack of healthy nutrients being taken in. In addition, low-fat diets can be mentally draining and could also have a negative effect on heart health.

5. You Won?t Be Able To Tone Target Areas

For us guys, we usually put on weight around the midsection. That means if you harbor hopes of getting that ripped six-pack, eating excess calories will make sure they remain covered up with a layer of fat. Keeping your diet in check will help you stay toned and alongside this, you should be trying to build muscle and burning more calories than you?re consuming.

Remember, doing regular intense exercise sessions are important for staying in shape and maintaining overall health. However, it?s the diet which fundamentally drives it.
