We use our memory each and every day, and perhaps at every moment within it. It’s an essential part of the human condition, and we happen to have a very powerful capacity for it. Despite its ubiquitous nature, we still often lack a great awareness of how it works. Some of us still think we work like a recording device, unconsciously lapping up everything we ever experience. This isn’t quite correct, we don’t remember everything, we only take in the important details, which is why we have scattered recollections of our past.

We’ve all had the uncomfortable experience of a word at the end of our tongue, but we just can’t quite pull the memory up. Or we study hard for a test or interview, only to forget half of it once we arrive. Learning is a complex function, and when we don’t understand it, we can do it in rather ineffective ways — cramming, it doesn’t work. Huffington Post have a few pointers for boosting our memory, including a little exercise:

Guess what? Your brain benefits from physical activity just as much as your body. Studies from the British Journal of Sports Medicineshow that regular aerobic exercise, the kind that gets your heart pumping, appears to boost the size of the hippocampus, the brain area involved in verbal memory and learning.

Exercise is beneficial in a number of ways, this is just one other. There are many other ways to boost memory, for them you’ll need to head over to Huffington Post and read the rest of the article.
