Reasons to Consider Working Out With Your Girlfriend
When you think about hitting the gym you probably don’t initially think about doing it with your girlfriend, but there are some reasons why you might want to consider it. The potential benefits can help boost your fitness levels and your relationship, so it’s worth a shot. Here are some reasons to try it.
Research has shown that working out with a girlfriend can strengthen a relationship since it is such a good way to spend quality bonding time together. According to personal trainer Shane Allen:
“What better person to do it with than your romantic partner? You can celebrate each other’s successes and help each other through struggles. Some of the strongest relationships I’ve seen are those with people who exercise together. Common goals and shared routines are what help make a relationship, as well as our bodies, stronger.”
Psychology today has reported that the shared experience makes more people feel more satisfied with their relationship in general. The physiological arousal of the activity when done together just makes people feel happy, and happy people within couple make happy relationships.
If hitting the gym or sticking with a certain intensity is hard for you to do on your own, having the accountability of doing it with a partner can be a huge motivating factor. It can help to workout with anyone, but while you can flake on a friend and avoid them for a couple days your girlfriend is probably a pretty different matter. Going after your fitness goals with someone who knows you intimately is going to be a whole different experience, which can be great if you allow it.
Working out with anyone has been proven to increase the amount of input that we put out, simply because we feel the added boost of pressure. (Which is a good thing.) You’re a lot less likely to keep running instead of breaking for a walk if your significant other is still going strong.
Couples who workout together might see the benefits extended into the bedroom as well. Although working out is very different than having sex, it is still a physical activity that has the potential to light some sparks. Spending more time with your girl in any physical manner has the potential to be a mood booster between the sheets. Not to mention that working out boosts endorphins and raises dopamine, serotonin, and other happy feeling things in the body, which help to keep the mood up in general which also tends to lead to more sex.
The physical sensations that occur during exercise might be enough to reignite some of the spark in long term relationships. Some of the same things happen to the body during exercise as during arousal, such as sweating, flushing, shortness of breath, and an increased pulse rate. Experiencing those physical sensations together at the gym might make you feel extra special towards each other later.
