Must-Read: Mid-Flight Snacks

We’re not going to take up much of your time today. Chances are, you’re relaxing at home with the fam, parking yourself in front of the TV and digesting the way-too-heavy meal you participated in over the holiday. Or, if you’re personally like us, the insane hangover that comes with hanging out with the extended family. So normal posting isn’t going to happen today. Instead, we’re just going to highlight one specific article that hits a little close to home.

Snack it right

You see, since we don’t live where our immediate family is, we need to take a flight there and back during the Christmas season. (Why we do from the gorgeous warmth of the West Coast to the freeze of the Midwest is still a question we ask ourselves.) So we’re prepping for a cross-country flight as we speak. And one of the things that always seems to happen is that all of the “work” that we want to get done during the long flight never ends up getting done. We always just kind of zone out and then nap. We can’t, for whatever reason, get the energy to work while that perfect nap drone of the airplane engines hums. But, as this article over at AskMen.com points out, there are snacks that make airplane traveling easier.

For example:

Say Sayonara to Jetlag with . . .
Almonds and sunflower seeds:
These nuts are high in melatonin, which regulates the chemicals in your body that control alertness. Chowing down on some foods rich in the ?sleep hormone? can help your body orient between your internal clock and an unfamiliar time zone.

Bananas: While they pump you with melatonin, bananas can also help prevent muscle cramping from no-legroom seats or long drives. They?re high in the muscle food potassium?which, when in low supply, triggers cramps. They have a calming effect, too, which comes from the fruit?s high levels of tryptophan?a key building block of the feel-good hormone serotonin.

Head over to the article for 9 other suggestions for mid-flight snacking. Have safe travels, everyone! Back to normal-scheduled programming tomorrow.
