Movie Alert: "Best Worst Movie”

Every year, the SXSW festival down in Austin holds a whole range of premieres in order for filmmakers to build up advance buzz for their movies. A number of these premieres end up fizzling out, but every so often one particular film comes along to take the festival by storm, with positive word-of-mouth spreading through the Internet quicker than herpes at a Hollywood club on a night when Paris Hilton is there. This year, the title of most-buzzed-about movie has to go to Best Worst Movie, a documentary about the making of Troll 2.

For those not in the know, Troll 2 is a little movie released in 1990 that is considered one of the worst movies of all time. A quick perusal through this montage of the film’s “best moments” shows that the moniker is well deserved; this monstrosity stands next to Plan 9 From Outer Space, Bride of the Monster, and any number of horrendous cinematic abortions that have graced the silver screen since the medium was first created.

And now, the child star of the original went out and made Best Worst Movie, which is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie, as well as the strange cult status that has grown up around it over the past 18 years.
