Do You Need a Card Holder Wallet?
When shopping for wallets, you may have noticed their cheaper cousin, the card holder wallet. The most affordable item in the small leather goods section, you may not realise think that a card holder is just a gimmick. However, a card holder wallet could actually be quite a useful thing to own.
A card holder wallet is commonly used in tandem with a slim wallet. The slim wallet holds your essentials such as cash, while the card holder is used for business cards. This is not the most economical of ideas, as put together they will take up more space than a regular wallet, and because then you have two things that are easy to lose instead of just one. However, it is quite possible to use a card holder by itself without a companion wallet.
A card holder can actually be quite a useful accessory. A bulgy wallet in your pocket can totally ruin the line of your outfit, especially in a suit. A slimline card holder can store your bare essentials, but be easily tucked into the inner pocket of your suit jacket. It is definitely a good idea to have a card holder for formal occasions. However, I do not recommend replacing your everyday wallet with a card holder wallet. Generally when someone is using a card holder as a wallet, it is because they did not want to pay for a wallet. It is a good idea to have a reasonably large wallet for regular use, but a card holder as a back-up option.
There is a reason why most men do not a card holder in place of a regular wallet. Obviously, they have much less space. You cannot store receipts, much cash, or any coins. You will need to be a light traveller, with nothing but a few cards, as the name will imply. A card holder wallet is really only suitable for occasions when you will not be handling much cash. If you are going to a bar and will be receiving change in coins, either bring a bigger wallet, or prepare to fill the tip jar.
When purchasing a card holder, it is best to go with a high-status designer brand. The reasons for this are twofold. Firstly, you will be using your card holder in situations when you are looking your sharpest, and the sleek style and prestige of a designer label will only help this impression. Secondly, you can afford to go designer even if it is usually not your thing, because card holders are one of the most accessible designer items you can buy. You may not be willing to shell out big bucks for a designer suit, but it is not difficult to spare the cash for a small leather piece. You’ll need to lighten your wallet anyway if you are converting to a card holder.
